Energy Strategy
Context
Under our ESG strategy we set out a short term target of of a 25% reduction in Scope 1 and 2 carbon emissions by 2025.
We also had the challenge to mitigate commercial and supply risk due to the global energy crisis.
Approach
I championed a 3 tier energy strategy covering -
1 Procurement - what type of energy we bought and when to hedge.
2 Operational efficiency - driving behaviours at site level to reduce energy wastage.
3 Energy of the future – deploying relative and absolute decarbonisation technologies such as LED and trialled others such as Solar, VO, in order to assess future scalability.
Results
Overall energy reduction of 10% vs baseline year.
Solar produced 10% of on-site electricity.
VO reduced usage by 8%.
ROI varied between 2-4 years.
Learnings gained regarding operational execution and external dependencies, to improve efficiency in future projects.
